CLINICS
In addition to general medical services, we provide specialist support for patients with hypertension, diabetes, asthma, COPD and CHD.
We also offer travel vaccinations, child health surveillance, childhood immunisations,
'healthy heart' advice, minor surgery, cryotech, antenatal/postnatal checks and
new patient health checks.
Consultation Policy
As our contract states, registered patients aged 16-75 who have not attended for a consultation with, nor a clinic provided by, Ilford Medical Centre within the previous three years may request a consultation. The surgery shall, in addition and without prejudice to its other obligations in the respect of the patient under the contract, provide such a consultation. The surgery shall, in the course of that consultation, make such inquiries and undertake such examinations as appear to be appropriate in the circumstances.
Registered patients aged 75 and over who have not attended for a consultation within the previous 12 months may request a consultation (as above).
A consultation shall take place in the home of the patient where, in the reasonable opinion of the doctor, it would be inappropriate, as a result of the patient's medical condition, for them to attend the practice premises.
Cervical Screening
Cervical smears are for the early detection and prevention of cancer of the neck of the womb. They are taken by the practice nurse or doctor by an arranged appointment. We recommend you have this service if you have not had a smear within the last three years and you are aged 25-49 or within the last five years if you are 50-64 years of age. If you are unsure we will advise you following reference to your records.
Breast Screening (Mammography)
Breast screening for women over 50 years of age is very important. The NHS Breast Screening Programme saves around 1,400 lives every year.
Immunisations
Immunisation
is very important for children. Illnesses such as diphtheria, tetanus and polio
are thankfully rare now due to immunisation policies, but if contracted can be
crippling or even fatal. We strongly recommend children are vaccinated. If you
have any worries or queries please discuss them with the doctor or practice nurse.
